Washing Machine broke after only 3 years

Washing Machine won't spin/drain. Replaced the Lock Switch for $60 and still not working. Machine fills with water and agitates but won't spin/drain - something just hums.

Ex-Customer!
8/12/2019
New-ish washer just out of warranty sounds like a large jet taking off. Paid too much for this thing and Whirlpool won't do anything about it (I already talked with their "customer support" dept.)
If I could rate this pie e of garbage lower than a 1 I would.
SHAME on you Whirlpool !!!
Best to steer clear of this company. They make cheaply made products and don't care that they are selling snake oil to unsuspecting consumers.

My husband & I are the only ones using this washer and it has gone bad in only four years of light usage. It makes a loud noise like an jet plane during spin, etc. VERY displeased with this unit. I am greatly disappointed to be faced with replacing it after such a short time.

Rusting Lid
Captjohn
4/26/2019
I bought this washer about three years ago and not very with the quality of its
construction. The lid by the hinges is rusting away. I have a lot of experience with Whirlpool, as I did appliance service for many years. I remember in the past, this was porcelain coated. Even the console is looking pretty bad. I feel the machine is going to fall apart before it has a mechanical problem.
I look forward to your reply.

Bought about 2 1/2 years ago. Do about 2 loads a week Quit working. It took me a year and a half to pay for my set. I payed about $2000.00 for my washer/dryer set. Dryer is still fi f but my washer stopped working about a month ago. I can't afford to buy another one at this time. The one I had before this set was over 13 yrs old and worked great untill it stopped. I really need my washer fixed or replaced by Whirlpool. A washer should not stop working in this amount of time. Please help.

i've had this for about 2 months. It does a great job. Quiet and easy to use. I read the manual to learn how to use it and if you follow the instructions it works great. It's quiet, has no vibrations, uses less water than my old one. It does work totally different from my old one and I had to get used to it; but now it is fantastic to use.;

Ive had this washer a month , I am so unhappy with it . The basket sits low and the The whole basket sways very easy like its only suspended on a few springs, If I put my hand in I can reach between basket and side and touch the inside sides of the washer itself ( does that seem right ?) The auto sensor clicks on, off, on, off, about 20 times per load making it take over an hour to do what my old washer did in 30 min. If by chance your load should become unbalanced OMG the noise of the basket slamming so hard against the sides, sounds like explosions! (where is the sensor that makes it stop ?) I was sure it was going to knock a hole right through or leave huge dents until I could shut it down. Thank God I didn't step out for the mail when it happened. I think possible my new washer is defective because I cant imagine a design being this faulty and problematic. I dont think any washer should lock on fill because my last washer lost a sensor and would overflow, I would catch it just in time because I could see it was going too high, this washer would flood the room before you could even catch it because it locks closed, that is a bad design ... most people want to know where the water is at any given time to check that all is working as should be ... Too many sensors means too many things can go bad. All around I have nothing good to say , has a strong spin and cleans the clothing but far too many downsides as any new washer should do that

First, I hate HE washers, but the industry refuses to respond to customer dissatisfaction and return to the designs of the past, which actually cleaned clothes, had options we need, and were convenient to use. This machine had no soak cycle and was noisy. Second, call me naive but I expect a $1000 washer to last more than three years. The transmission needs replacement, and with parts and labor of $500, the repair will cost $29 less than buying a new machine.

Bad purchase
AngryNC

Purchased 8/25/18. Delivered to me on 9/1. Didn't need to use it until 9/10. Noticed clothes were DRIPPING wet when it was done. 2nd wash, I went back over owner's guide and changed the cycle settings. I still had to "ring" out excess water before putting clothes in the dryer. Today (3rd wash) I added softener and 1 Rinse, it didn't add the softener AND it kept rinsing. I had to cancel it at the beginning of the 3rd rinse?? Also, the agitator never moved during the "wash" cycle. I figured my clothes were just soaking before the wash actually started. So, I payed a bit more attention and listened. The washer was still for what seemed forever, then when it moved again, it was draining the water out. Agitator never moved. I've had to use the spin/drain feature twice on this 3rd load and my clothes are still dripping wet. I'll have to take my clothes to my mother's to use her washer because my BRAND NEW washer hasn't cleaned/actually washed anything. I'm very upset and frustrated right now. I got rid of my WORKING 11+ yr old Frigidaire washer because I needed a new dryer and I wanted my appliances to match. Rated the value at a 1 because it doesn't work properly, so it doesn't matter how much or little I paid for it.

It came with the house, so I had no choice in selection. I don't like not having control over water level. I don't like not being able to open the lid while filling. Auto sensing water level is a good concept, but I want to be able to look to make sure it's filling to my satisfaction. I can understand it for spin cycle of course. Washer gets confused if I forget to turn on the water. Just makes a buzzing sound until I reset it by holding the Start button for more than 3 seconds and then I need to start over

Washer Basket sagging after 4 months
ALGuy

At first this machine was great. Then one day we noticed the washer basket hanging about 5 inches from the top while doing a rather typical load of laundry. Repair guy says it's normal - I say that's crazy, and there's obviously something wrong. Would never buy Whirlpool again.

After less than 2 years of normal use this washer just gave out - a very large noise was heard coming from it and now after paying a service technician to see the problem - it has been discovered it is the water inlet valve that needs replacing. They are quoting me $300 to fix this. I assumed that buying a "premium" washer from a trusted brand like whirlpool would get me a product that lasted a little bit longer than this. Hopefully there is a better option out there for me.

Bought this washer with a 5 year warranty from home depot and a little over a year later the washer wouldn't finish the wash cycle. The washer would stop at wash and not drain and spin out. After hours of being on the phone and transferred to several people i finally was able to schedule an appointment for someone to come service. A part had to be ordered, the part was replaced it worked for one wash and now is now working. AGAIN i'm trying to get someone to come fix it... been over a month without a washer, not happy about it and wouldn't recommend it to anyone!

Washer to be replaced after only 2 years
Bodaman
1/4/2018
I purchased this washing machine 2 years ago after reading all of the positive reviews on this washer. Last week the spin cycle stopped working so the washer would not drain. We had a service repair person look at it and the prognosis was a blown transmission with a recommendation of a new washing machine. I called the Whirlpool service center to ask a representative how this could happen after only 2 years. After almost 1 hour waiting on hold, I was able to speak with someone but they could not explain how this could happen. Since I have no idea what the issue is, I cannot recommend this machine and will avoid buying Whirlpool products in the future.

Problem with washer was the fill valve. Technician replaced it, and now the washer is back to working great again. (turns out, if washer does not fill in a certain amount of time, washer automatically drains itself) This review is an update to my review of two months ago. This a good value washer for the price.

Not good after 2 years
9/6/2017
Wow - I see other reviewers have had the exact same problem that I am having after two years of use: washer stops dead at the wash setting - water is drained, but clothes are very wet - have not spun. The lock button is off, as though the cycle finished. If I manually clear that cycle with the cancel button, and then choose the rinse/spin cycle, the washer will rinse and then spin the clothes and finish. But that is terrible that the user has to step in manually to get the clothes rinsed and spun. I am so disappointed - the washer had worked very well up until this point. (although it is very noisy.) This washer is at a vacation home, so the usage has been light. And yes, we keep the heat on at the vacation home during the winter, and our plumber puts antifreeze in it anyway, just in case the heat ever goes off when we are not there so that the small bit of water that stays inside the washer does not freeze. But the heat has not been off during these two years, (have heat monitoring sensor for house) so freezing did not happen. If anyone finds out what the fix is, and the cost to fix this problem, I would like to see an update here in the reviews. There is not a Whirlpool authorized repair person close by, so it will most likely cost a small fortune just for them to make a trip to diagnose the problem. Then who knows what the cost to repair might be. I hesitate to put any more money into this washer. This is the first time that I have had a problem with a Whirlpool product. At my primary residence, I have a refrigerator that is 18 years old, a dishwasher that is 15 years old, and a dryer that is 3 years old - all without any issues whatsoever and all are still going strong. (Probably just jinxed myself.) I cannot stress enough how disappointed I am with this Whirlpool washer!!!

After a couple of years it quit working. Worked great until then. Now it starts filling with water, gets partially full, stops filling, drains the water and then it just stops. Nothing, nada, zilch. Very disappointed to say the least! We got almost 20 years out of our last washing machine and that is what I expected to get from this one. My next washing machine will NOT be one of these if 2 years is all they are good for.

sensor bad after two years???
Star mom
7/10/2017
I've had the washer for only two years. Recently it washes then not sure if it drains but when I come back the wash light is still on ...wait 30 mins to see if it's going in a cycle but no. The clothes are wet wet, distribute them and then have to reset for the rinse/spin cycle. Depending on what articles washing I might have to spin again. If it's a sensor does anyone know what that's going to cost to replace? I gave it a 4 because it had worked well but now I'm seeing a 1-2 so frustrating!

I bought this almost a year ago and was worst decision. This washer does not clean, clothes come out still dirty. The auto sensor for water shouldn't even be an option. Even using the heavy duty cycle for every wash it doesn't make a difference. My husband works construction so we have a lot of dirty clothes to wash on a regular basis. You need water, soap and an agitator, that's it. This machine doesn't fully agitate, almost like it's on delicate cycle all the time. I can't believe this product was ever sold. Now I'm stuck with it until I can afford to replace it.

WHEN, WE BOUGHT THIS WASHER, I TOLD, THE SALESMAN I NEEDED A DEEP WASHER, HE SHOWED US, THIS WASHER, I LOOKED INSIDE, I SAID YEA, THAT'S WHAT, I WANT! THEY DELIVERED IT! STARTED USING IT, IT'S SO NOISY, I WOULDN'T KNOW WHAT, TO EXPECT, IF, IT WAS TEARING UP, NEVER DRAINS ENOUGH WATER, IN THE TUB, THEN IF, YOU DON'T GET TO THE CLOTHES, RIGHT AWAY, THE SOFTNER DISPENSER, DRIPS DOWN ONTO THE AGITATOR AND GETS ON THE CLOTHES, ALSO, THE LOCK BUTTON DOESN'T WANT TO RELEASE, SOME OF THE TIME, SO, YOU HAVE TO KEEP MESSING WITH IT, TO GET IT TO OPEN! NOT AT ALL WHAT, WE WAS EXPECTING, BECAUSE, WE'VE HAD WHIRLPOOL WASHERS AND DRYERS BEFORE, WE REALLY LIKED! ANOTHER THING IS, ONCE YOU START IT, YOU CAN'T, REALLY STOP THE CYCLE, IF, YOU DECIDE, YOU WANT TO WAIT, TIL LATER, TO WASH!
